Star Wars: Puzzle Droids Is Disney’s Latest Star Wars Mobile Game

The game follows BB-8 on a journey across Jakku and Takodana as it retells past Star Wars stories

In mid-April, Disney revealed the first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, coming to theaters Dec. 15. Now, the company released its latest Star Wars mobile game, giving fans a new way to occupy their time until the film’s premiere.

The game is called Star Wars: Puzzle Droids, and it follows BB-8 on a journey across Jakku and Takodana as it retells past Star Wars stories. BB-8 has lost some of its memories, so players will need to complete match-three levels to collect memory discs and unlock memories. Along the way, players can interact with characters such as Rey, Fin and Poe Dameron.

Star Wars: Puzzle Droids is one of many mobile games based on the Star Wars franchise. Over the years, companies including Electronic Arts, Netmarble, Konami and even Rovio have released games based on the Star Wars license, and some of these games have been used to advertise new films in the franchise via the addition of themed content updates.

Similarly, the release of a new Star Wars film can positively impact the franchise’s mobile titles. For instance, after the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015, application store optimization company Sensor Toweranalyzed 22 iOS Star Wars games and apps and found that the film’s release in theaters drove increased downloads and revenue to the series’ mobile titles.

Star Wars: Puzzle Droids is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store, Google Play and the Amazon Appstore. The game includes optional in-app purchases.
